A SHORT HISTORY
St. Peter's Episcopal Church began as an Episcopal mission in 1906. With meager funds contributed by the diocese and by individuals, Canon William Rix Attwood purchased a vacant church in Lakewood, a growing suburb just west of Cleveland. The little mission moved steadily toward independence and was served by various ministers-at-large.

In 1917, St. Peter's Episcopal Church became a parish. The church soon acquired the present church property and began plans for building a new church. The bishop laid the cornerstone in 1927, and by mid-1928 the church building was completed. The church was consecrated on March 10, 1946 (marking its status as a debt-free church), and a parish hall was added in 1950. In 1968, the educational wing was added to the church building, and a beautiful garth was created in the resulting quadrangle. The Child Care Center was established in 1983.
