PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE FOR JANUARY 29, FEBRUARY 12, 26

In the peace you give to us, O God, we now offer to you our concerns, our joys, our sorrows and our thanksgivings. Accept our praises, O God, through the intercession of your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ.

We exalt you, O God;

And praise your Name for ever.

For all people in their daily life and work; for our families, friends, and neighbors, and for those who are alone.

Five seconds of silence

We exalt you, O God;

And praise your Name for ever.

For this community, the nation, and the world; and for all courageous souls who work for justice, freedom, and peace.

Five seconds of silence

We exalt you, O God;

And praise your Name for ever.

For the just and proper use of your creation; and for the victims of hunger, fear, injustice, and oppression.

Five seconds of silence

We exalt you, O God;

And praise your Name for ever.

For all who are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble; and for those who minister to the sick, the friendless, and the needy.

Five seconds of silence

We exalt you, O God;

And praise your Name for ever.

For the peace and unity of the Church of God; for all who proclaim the Gospel, and all who seek the Truth.

For Katherine our Presiding Bishop,

for Mark our Bishop, and for David, Bill, and Arthur, his assistants;

For the clergy and lay leadership of this diocese and parish;

Five seconds of silence

We exalt you, O God;

And praise your Name for ever.

For all who serve God within the Church, and for all who serve in the world on the Church’s behalf; We pray today for the ministry of our outreach focus partner, UNTO, International, and for their work through the Lighthouse School in Los Al Carrizos, Dominican Republic.

Five seconds of silence

We exalt you, O God;

And praise your Name for ever.

O God we offer up to you the special needs and concerns of this congregation gathered here today. Hear us, Lord, for your mercy is great.

Silence. Clergy will add specific prayers. Remain silent for an additional

10 seconds so people may add their own petitions.

We exalt you, O God;

And praise your Name for ever.

We pray for all who have died, that they may have a place in your eternal kingdom. Let your loving-kindness be upon those who put their trust in you.

Silence. Clergy will add any specific prayers.

We exalt you, O God;

And praise your Name for ever.

We thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life.

PRAYER GROUP & BOOK GROUP: quiet reflection and sharing, 1:00 – 2:30 pm Mondays through June.

WEEKLY BIBLE STUDIES: There are two weekly opportunities for Bible Study. The Wednesday 10:30 a.m. to Noon study is for all-comers, and takes place in the parish lounge. The Friday 7:00 a.m. study is a group of men who meet at Joe’s Deli in Rocky River for breakfast and bible study. Both groups generally follow a serial reading of various books of the Bible. Discussions are usually quite lively!!

JOURNEY TO THE CENTER: Every year, Keith offers this basic “Introduction to the Christian Faith, Episcopal style.” Over the 13 weeks of the program, we review Holy Scripture, Church History, ideas of the Church, Prayer, Sacramental Life, and Ministry. The program is a combination of talks, small and large group discussions, experiential learning, and personal journaling. “Journey to the Center” is a perfect opportunity for those new to the faith, new to the Episcopal Church, or those wishing to refresh their knowledge and experience of the faith. It is an experience shared with other seekers of all ages.

“Journey to the Center” is also the way St. Peter’s individuals are prepared for the sacramental rites of baptismal reaffirmation (confirmation, reception). Candidates will be partnered with a sponsor or sponsors for several additional learning experiences.

Young people who seek to be confirmed should turn 16 within six months of the Bishop’s visit. Younger teens may take “Journey” and seek confirmation, but they and their parents must first have a private conversation with Keith.

STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN: The 2012 Stewardship Campaign, Inspiring Community, has been very successful. We are at 85% of our overall goal. If you have not turned in your pledge card, please place it in the alms basket or turn in to the office.

PARISH FINANCES: It is that time of year for the pledges to catch up to the expenditures; the Parish through November has a deficit. If the outstanding pledges are paid we can reduce this deficit considerably. Please remember St. Peters this month and have a safe and joyous holiday season. Sincerely, Dan Lammers, Treasurer

DECEMBER OUTREACH PROJECT: ST. PETER’S COMMUNITY MEAL: The second Tuesday of each month, we serve close to 100 folks a hot meal. We try to have a bag of groceries to send home with our guests, too. This ministry offers a wide variety of tasks – shopping, baking, flower arranging, cooking, serving, and washing dishes. Providing a hot meal to someone in need is a generally satisfying activity. We are very blessed to have volunteers that love to come together and cook and serve and even wash the dishes together. We are also blessed to have a parish that supports this ministry with their time, talent and treasure. As December’s loose plate is passed, please generously support this ministry; your donation funds this important ministry. Thank-you for helping us to feed those who are hungry.

2012 ENVELOPES: If you ordered envelopes for next year on your 2012 pledge card, they are at the back of the church on the table. In order to save postage, we will not mail them until the last week of December. So, please help us by picking up your envelopes.

LIFETOUCH PICTURES: If you had your picture taken for the 2012 Pictorial Directory, your picture may be at the back to the church. Some of the pictures were sent directly to the Church Office. So, please pick up your 8×10 photo from the table in the back. The directories will be available around Lent!

LADIES OF ST. PETER’S: We are hoping that you will join us on Wednesday, December 21st, at noon for our Christmas Luncheon at The Rockcliffe, 2589 Woodster Road, (440-333-2500.) We will be ordering from the menu, sitting at tables before the roaring fireplace. This is a wonderful holiday tradition of both St. Ann’s and St. Cecilia’s, and we have had a few brave gentlemen join us in the past. Newcomers are always welcome. Please RSVP to Tina Uible at 440-331-5861 or tuible@aol.com. We need to get an accurate count for the number of table.s

HANGING OF THE GREENS: The Hanging of the Greens will beginon Thursday, December 22nd, at 10:00 a.m. Due to everyone’s very busy holiday schedule we will forgo the traditional potluck brunch. However, for everyone participating, lunch will be provided by Keith. Please plan to participate. Your help is greatly appreciated. All are invited. Dress is casual.

PARISH BREAKFAST: The monthly Parish Breakfasts will continue for the next several months due to the gracious generosity of our parishioners! Several folks have offered their willingness to help out with the breakfasts during specific months – give the office a call and arrangements can be made for you to help.

Needed! Acolytes, Scripture Readers, Chalice Bearers and Ushers: We are looking for a few good acolytes, scripture readers, chalice bearers and ushers to assist with our Sunday Services. There will be a sign-up sheet at the back of the church for these ministries and an opportunity to take part in training. Individuals who sign up will be trained and scheduled to begin in January. All of these ministries are very rewarding, and yet require very little in terms of time. The main qualification is a willingness to learn and serve. Young people are especially encouraged to sign up, though we do require that one be at least 11 years old and at least 50 inches tall (to fit in the robes!). If you have any questions, please call the church office or talk with Rev. Nancy Wittig.

ADULT SPIRITUALITY & EDUCATION: Adult Education and Spirituality plans for November and December are varied and exciting. Just look at our line-up!!!
