SAFEGUARDING GOD’S CHILDREN: A requirement of the Canons of the Diocese of Ohio, and a requirement in our parish liability insurance policy, mandates that all Vestry, staff, and anyone working regularly with youth or children, must undergo “Safeguarding God’s Children” training. This training takes about 2.5 hours. Jill Mintzlaff is a certified trainer for SGC and offers the program regularly here. The next opportunity is on Sunday, June 3 at 11:45 a.m.. You will be provided a light lunch and childcare is provided for those with children. Again, this is REQUIRED for Vestry members. The diocese keeps on file a record of who has taken this training. The certification is good for 3 years. It is difficult training, but extremely well done. IF YOU HAVE NOT TAKEN SAFEGUARDING TRAINING IN THREE OR MORE YEARS, PLEASE SIGN-UP FOR THIS SESSION BY E-MAILING MICHELLE KILLIN-KEITH at dartwoman@sbcglobal.net. This is an extremely beneficial training. Everyone in the Congregation is encouraged to take this opportunity to attend Safeguarding God’s Children.

ST. PETER’S GOOD BYE PARTY FOR WATTERSON LAKE STUDENTS will be held on Thursday, May 31st from 2:30 to 3:30 pm in the Media Center. There will be light refreshments and past tradition has been for each tutor to give a book, as a gift, to his/her child. Each tutor may introduce their student so we can all recognize them for their hard work and progress. Photos will capture the memories of you and your student(s) from the year! If you have questions or wish to help with our party, please call me . 440-835-5185 (H) or 440 454 0583 (C) Hopefully it has been a good experience and you will be joining us again next September. We are always ready to welcome others as well as the needs are great. ~ Liz Vinson

Travelling in Faith; Two Opportunities for Pilgrimage: Tourists go on tours to see things. Pilgrims go on pilgrimages to find God. In 2013 and 2014, Keith will be leading groups of pilgrims to encounter God in foreign places.

From February 15 – 23, 2013, Saint Peter’s folks again will have the opportunity travel to Los Al Carrizos in the Dominican Republic to be part of an unfolding miracle in this impoverished community. Under the leadership of Judy and Harold Tyreman, and the auspices of “Unto, International,” we will pray and work together alongside Christians from other congregations to continue building the “Lighthouse School.” We will interact with the kind people of this community and experience the rich beauty and troubling poverty of this land. For a week we will be “missionaries,” embodying our faith by serving the poor of the community. Don’t be at all surprised, however, if the people of Los Al Carrizos do much more for you than you do for them! The orientation meeting is Sunday June 3rd at 9:00 a.m. in the Undercroft.

From June 26 to July 8, 2014, Saint Peter’s folks will have the opportunity to make pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Along with my good friend Canon Iyad Qumri, a licensed Israeli tour leader, I will lead this group in an exploration of the land, culture, sights, sounds, and smells of the Holy Scriptures. Our pilgrimage will coincide with the first ten days of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, offering us a profound opportunity to witness authentic Islamic spirituality. We will visit all the major Christian holy places. We will also have evening speakers to provide Israeli and Palestinian political perspectives. A pilgrimage to the Holy Land is completely safe. A pilgrimage to the Holy Land will change your life forever. You will never again read or listen to Holy Scriptures in the same way. The orientation meeting for anyone interested in this pilgrimage is on Sunday, June 10th at 9:00 a.m. in the Undercroft. If you are unable to attend the orientation meetings, please contact Keith to get the important handouts that will be provided.

APRIL OUTREACH PROJECT: PRADER-WILLI SYNDROME ASSOCIATION OF OHIO. PWSA of Ohio was founded in 1987 by parents of children with PWS. This complex and challenging syndrome affects approximately one out of every 12,000 – 15,000 individuals in the U.S. Prader-Willi Syndrome (pronounced PRAH-der WILL-ee) is the most commonly diagnosed, genetic cause of obesity in children and affects the 15th chromosome. Sophie Bolander, daughter of Brad and Jennifer Bolander and younger sister of Kate, was diagnosed with PWS at 6 weeks old through bloodwork. The most challenging “symptom” of PWS is hyperphagia, an as-yet-untreatable hunger message sent from the hypothalamus; other issues caused by PWS include life-long low muscle tone; delays in speech, fine and gross motor skills; potentially severe behavioral issues; consistent obsession with and anxiety about food; and obsessive-compulsive behaviors. PWSA of Ohio serves Ohio PWS families as a resource for education, awareness efforts, support, advocacy, PWS-secure activities and gatherings, and funding to help offset the cost of attendance at PWS conferences. If you would like further information about PWS, please contact the Bolanders at 440-716-0552 or readbooks2@hotmail.com, or visit www.pwsausa.org. Thank you so much!

LENTEN “HOPE CHEST” MITE BOXES are now due! Please return your “Hope Chest” to the church office via the Sunday collection plate or to the office by May 1st. Checks and rolled coins will be accepted! All funds benefit the Episcopal Relief & Development. “Happy are those who consider the poor; the Lord delivers them in the day of trouble.” Psalm 41:1

MISSION TRIP FLOWER SALE plant pickup is in the church parking lot on Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 10:30-12:00. Any flowers not picked up will be considered a donation to the church.

Come join in. All are invited. 10:30 Wednesday mornings in the upstairs lounge.

IT’S SPRING CLEAN-UP TIME! MARK YOUR CALENDARS… Now that winter is over – well, what little winter we have actually had – it’s time for our spring clean-up. The annual all-parish Spring Clean-Up Day has been scheduled for Saturday, May 12th. It’s time for us to prepare the church for Spring and Summer. We need help with planting flowers, raking leaves, painting fences, grading soil, and general clean-up. We will also have some inside projects for in case it rains. We’ll start at 8:30 a.m. (give us as much time as you can spare) and finish around noon. Lunch will be provided to all. So come join us for some outdoor fun and fellowship. Thanks for your help.

WEDNESDAYS in LENT series will continue on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. with a soup supper in the Undercroft. All are invited be part of our Lenten study, “Sin, Heaven, and Hell in the Writings of C.S. Lewis.” Lewis was one of the most influential and engaging Christian writers of the twentieth century, and his theological musings have had a subtle but powerful impact upon Anglicans for three generations. The two books upon which we will concentrate are The Screwtape Letters and The Great Divorce. They are both highly entertaining, provocative, and often humorous works of fiction that will forever change your concepts of sin, heaven, and hell. The program will begin at 7:00 p.m. and end promptly at 8:00 p.m. Childcare is available. Please join us for this very enticing, intriguing and interesting topic!

ADULT SPIRITUALITY & EDUCATION: Adult Education and Spirituality plans for the winter promises to be informative and exciting. The Kingdom of God! Join us as we begin John Dominic Crossan and Marcus Borg’s series, First Light, Jesus and the Kingdom of God. SUNDAYS at 9 a.m.; Childcare is available. Here’s a look at what’s to come in the next few weeks… March 18 – Parables as Lures; March 25 – Jesus as Lord

ST. CECECILA’S will meet at St. Peter’s at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21st, to drive together to attend the Noon Concert at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2031 West 30th Street. We have enjoyed these concerts every year; if you wish, you may drive directly to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and meet us there. This year I have made reservations at 1 p.m. for a private dining room at Le Petite Triangle at 1881 Fulton for lunch after the concert. It is a charming French restaurant, serving crepes, salads, quiche and wine, with a view of the beautiful Carnegie Public Library across the street. Please RSVP to Tina Uible at 440-331-5861, or call me with any questions.

If you would like to help or have any questions please call Michelle Killin-Keith at 440-781-4161.
